Hiring a new employee is a big task. It includes setting them up with the proper equipment, training them, educating them on your company’s vision and values and introducing them to the rest your team. No matter what industry you are in, from website design to manufacturing, one of the most important parts of the hiring process is filling out all of the proper state and federal forms. It’s also very important to use the most current versions of each form in order to avoid potentially large fines.

A new version of the Affirmation of Legal Work Status form is now available and should be used for any employee hired after October 1st of this year. This is a form that verifies work authorization and must be filled out by all Colorado employers in addition to the I-9 within 20 days of a new employee’s hire date.

The Society for Human Resource Management has a great article with answers to many frequently asked questions about hiring in Colorado and a link to the new form. You can find it here.
