WHAT NOT TO DO FOR SEO: PART 11 | New Domain

Today, we’ll talk about the importance of having a domain registered longer than just one year, as well as how important it is to have one that isn’t a brand new domain.

Letting domains expire? – The age of a domain (how old your site is) is an important factor in a site’s position in search results.  Google trusts older sites as more relevant to a user simply because the site has been around longer than others of the same topic(s).

New or soon-to-expire domains have a difficult time remaining in first-page Google results. It’s best to register domains for as
long as possible, and to renew them as soon as the two-year mark approaches.

Basically, avoid buying a brand new domain for your site if you have the option of getting an older one, and keep registering it out farther into the future so Google has a reason to trust you!
