This is the next installment in our series on how to increase your conversion rates in your website design.

Improve your design.  I know, it sounds obvious, but then again it’s worth stating because there are so many atrocious sites out there.  If everyone already knows that having a professional looking site can improve your chances of getting the sale, then why are there so many bad sites?

Here’s a tib-bit of trivia, the kind that only Cliff Claven on Cheers would know… “Ahhh, it’s a little-known fact that visitors to your website make up their minds as to whether or not they perceive you as credible and professional enough to do business within the first 50 milliseconds of seeing your site.”  Think about that for a second.  Now if you really spent a second thinking about that, and I literally mean one second, that’s 20 times longer than the amount of time it takes for a person to look at your site and determine if they’ll do business with you.  One twentieth of a second.  That’s not very long so if you were banking on the fact that they’d scroll down the page to see your product’s great features and then be amazed by your prices, you’re wrong.  They’ve hit the back button long before that.  You have to hit them with a professional presence from the moment the page loads.  If you’re trying to impress, you can’t hope that they’ll even read your headline.  You might have lost them before they even see the headline. You only have one chance to make a first impression so don’t mess it up.
