U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a new version of the I-9 form recently. The form was issued earlier this year but must be used beginning on May 7th, 2013.  After May 6th, all previous versions will be considered invalid.  This is the form that must be completed when a new employee is hired to document the verification of their identity and authorization to work in the United States. The form is very similar to previous versions but it’s now broken out over two pages – which should make it easier to complete correctly. There is a clearer separation between which portions of the document should be filled out by the employer versus the employee and the document is better spaced so you are less likely to miss a line when completing it.  It also includes more detailed instructions and requires additional information in section 1, including the employee’s email address and phone number. The most recent version of the form can be found at uscis.gov.
