If your footer navigation is all keywords, it’s time to rethink the usefulness of the links. The reality is that footer links will bury your website on Google. Over the last couple of years, Google has been attacking all links that seem to be spammy or not deemed “useful.”

What does that mean? Here’s a quick example:

In your main navigation, you wouldn’t structure it like this:

Keyword | Keyword | Keyword etc.

So why would you do that in your footer navigation?

How should footer links be structured?

A normal suitable navigation looks like this:

Home | About Us | Blog |Contact Us

Do you see how that is actually useful? It tells me something about what’s on the other side of the link, so I’m more likely to click on it.

If you have footer links that are just full of keywords, it’s time to get rid of them. Don’t know how? Give us a call!
