The Momentum of Twitter

Twitter seems to be everywhere. I dare you to make it through a day without hearing someone talk about Twitter. It’s on the news. It’s on Oprah. It’s everywhere. And despite what you may think, it’s not just for teens. In fact, teens aren’t on Twitter. They’re too busy texting with their phones. Professionals are on Twitter. People in their 30s and 40s are on Twitter. Actually, more than 30 million people just like you were on Twitter last month.

So how did Twitter come out of nowhere and become one of the most popular sites on the web? Well, Twitter didn’t actually come out of nowhere. It’s been around for more than 3 years. But if you’re just getting on Twitter yourself, don’t worry, it’s not too late. With only 30 million users, you’re still an early adopter considering there are about 5 billion people that have yet to try it out. So why is it taking off? Perhaps it’s because it’s so easy to use. Setting up a Twitter account can literally take less than a minute. It’s also easy to use. While traditional blogs can be time consuming, Twitter limits its posts to 140 characters. That’s less than a couple sentences. Think you can’t say anything in 140 characters? Well, millions of people every month have figured out a way to communicate using just a few sentences.

If you’re thinking about investigating Twitter, the best way to do it is to set up your own account and start following some people who have similar interests. Watch what they’re doing and you’ll quickly see how easy it is. I’d be happy to connect and offer advice.
