Should You Fire Your Web Design Company?

We had a new client call us yesterday.  He was so excited.  He could barely contain himself.  Here’s part of what he said…

“Wow, I wish we had known about you guys years ago.  We would have avoided a lot of wasted time and money.”

He was blown away that after only 2 weeks, his site was ranked #1 on Google for many of the keywords he’d always wanted to rank for.  More importantly, his sales were also sky-rocketing.  He bragged that he’s even getting orders from Spain and Saudi Arabia and other countries.  He’s wanted his website to work for him, like this, for the past 10 years but has struggled, despite all of the money he’s paid to other SEO firms.

He went on to say that he really loved the gal that he’s used for SEO over the years but unfortunately, her company just didn’t know how to really make it work, despite the fact that her company just does SEO and nothing else.  Ironic, isn’t it?   There seems to be a huge number of companies out there with SEO in their name who have a handful to tricks up their sleeves but they struggle to ever have success with any of their clients’ sites, let alone, their own web sites.  That begs the question, if they can’t get traffic to their own site, how can they get traffic to yours?

In our mind, novices who are masquerading as SEO professionals are bordering on SEO malpractice.  Your business is at stake and you shouldn’t feel like you’re a guinea pig.  And what’s worse is that you’re paying these companies to learn what they should already know.

But, we understand.  We’ve been there.  There was a time when we wondered why on earth we couldn’t consistently get sites to rank on the first page of Google.  It was very frustrating.  We pondered.  We researched.  We tested and were still challenged.  But that was ten years ago.  A lot has changed.  In fact, it’s changing every day.

Sure, there are the tried-and-true methods that we use and the other SEO companies use too.  But if you talk to them, they’ll tell you it’s all about links.  Or they’ll tell you that you have to have meta keywords (which by the way, isn’t true.)  The best one I’ve heard came from a competitor who said that he believed that if you just write good content, all of the other things will just fall into place.

That’s absurd.  Search engine optimization is an intentional process and without a sound strategy, nothing will “fall into place.”

If you’re curious about how we can turn your website around so that you can brag to your friends about sales from Saudi Arabia, let’s meet for coffee.  Maybe it’s time to fire your web design company.  Give us a call and we’ll talk.  The number is 970-674-0079.
