INTRODUCTION

I’m not one that typically follows trends, but when my boss asked me to start a BLOG for our company it didn’t seem like a bad idea.

Officially, by title, I am a “project manager,” but one of my biggest passions has always been writing. That may seem ironic, because I used to tell my high school teachers that I was illiterate and unable to write to try to get out of projects – ya, that didn’t fly.  So here I am now, embarking on my first blogging journey.

This first blog is more of an introduction more than anything… a get to know you of sorts.  My “PLAN” is to post different blogs each day dealing with various topics including: marketing tips, PR and press release tips, marketing project management tips, and beneficial business tips that can help you with your business marketing ventures!  If you haven’t checked out my bio yet, I feel that it is only appropriate to give you the run-down on my background to establish a little baseline credibility.

ABOUT ME

I graduated with honors in May from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a B.A. in Communications and History.  I have a dual emphasis in Communications which includes journalism, broadcasting, PR, and mass media and interpersonal and public communications.  I was also a three-year letter-man on the UMKC Women’s Golf Team (I played my first years at Chadron State), a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a three-time NGCA Division I Academic All-American.

While in college, I had the pleasure of taking courses from some of the nation’s best professors in their respective fields.  On the communications side, my professors have included a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, a PR consultant for Kansas City’s second largest power company, a national brand and marketing consultant for agencies including McCann-Erickson and Saatchi & Saatchi X, and a self-proclaimed SOB… I nearly fell out of my chair when he announced that to the class on the first day.  They were all fantastic and I owe a lot of what I know today to each of them.

I know a lot about golf… in fact, it has been my whole life up until graduation.  I mostly play for fun now, but I am hoping to take a year off and continue to play competitively on the state and national level.  I am more than happy to lend out golfing tips to those in need.

My writing style at times can be sarcastic – I promise that I am not trying to personally offend anyone.

The last thing about me that I’d want to note is that I am a “REAL” person.  If there is one thing I can’t stand more than anything in the world is people who are “FAKE.”  I think that being honest and genuine goes a lot farther than not being who you truly are.  I am an honest and I promise to tell it like it is – no fluff.

But that’s enough about me… until tomorrow – thanks for being a part of my blogging adventure for the marketing industry.
